How to address mini-modules and call points?

Yes, through a programming lead: PL-3 for devices with a 3-pin programming socket, PL-2 for devices addressed at their C and L terminals.

Direct answer

Yes. Mini-modules and manual call points cannot clip onto the TCH-B200 programmer, so they are addressed through a programming lead plugged into the remote programming socket on the TCH-B200. Which lead you need depends on the connector on the device, not on how old it is. Devices with a 3-pin programming socket — CHQ-SIM, CHQ-SOM, CHQ-POM and the HCP and ICP ranges of manual call points — take the PL-3. Devices addressed through their C and L terminals — the ACB-EW multi-heat sensor, a YBO-BS used as a wall sounder, and the legacy CHQ-BS base sounder — take the PL-2. Neither lead is supplied with the programmer, so order the one you need separately. A YBO-BS base sounder is supplied with its own croc-clip lead for wall sounder addressing.

Applies to

  • Products / Models: TCH-B200, PL-2 and PL-3 programming leads. Reads and sets addresses on the Hochiki ESP range: HCP and ICP manual call points, CHQ-SIM, CHQ-SOM and CHQ-POM through the PL-3; the ACB-EW multi-heat sensor, a YBO-BS used as a wall sounder and the CHQ-BS base sounder through the PL-2.

Which lead do I need?

Lead Used on Connection
PL-3 Devices with a 3-pin programming socket — CHQ-SIM, CHQ-SOM, CHQ-POM and any HCP or ICP manual call point, for example HCP-E(SCI) or ICP-W(SCI). 2.5 mm jack plug into the TCH-B200, 3-pin Molex square plug into the programming socket on the device. Length 700 mm.
PL-2 Devices addressed through their C and L terminals — the ACB-EW multi-heat sensor, a YBO-BS base sounder used as a wall sounder, and the legacy CHQ-BS base sounder. 2.5 mm jack plug into the TCH-B200, then the black crocodile clip to the C terminal and the red crocodile clip to the L terminal on the device. Length 660 mm.

Steps

  1. Disconnect the device from the loop before you connect a PL-2. Crocodile clips on a live C and L terminal can short the loop.
  2. Plug the jack plug of the PL-2 or PL-3 into the remote programming socket on the TCH-B200.
  3. Connect the other end to the device: the square plug into the programming socket for a PL-3, or the crocodile clips to the C and L terminals for a PL-2.
  4. Press the left key to switch the programmer on, then read or set the address in the usual way. See How do I find out what the address of a device is? and How do I program a new address into a device?
  5. Remove the lead from the programmer once the address is stored.

Disconnect sounders from the loop before programming them, do not short the crocodile clips of a PL-2 together, and use the leads only with the ESP programmer and Hochiki loop devices.

Not every module is addressed with the programmer. A larger CHQ interface module (a CHQ-DZM, CHQ-DIM2, CHQ-DSC2, CHQ-DRC2, CHQ-MRC2 or CHQ-SZM2) has no programming socket: its address is set on the first seven switches of the 8-bit DIL switch on the module.

When to contact technical support

Contact Hochiki Europe technical support if the programmer shows E1, E4 or E5 with the correct lead fitted and correctly connected, or if you are not sure which lead a particular device needs. For what each code means, see What do the TCH-B200 error codes mean?

Safety note

This article is general guidance for Hochiki Europe products. Design, installation, commissioning, maintenance and modification of fire detection and alarm systems should be carried out by, or under the responsibility of, a competent person in accordance with the applicable standards (for example BS 5839-1 in the UK). Statutory requirements imposed by the relevant enforcing authority also apply. Always refer to the current product manual and data sheet for the exact model before carrying out any work.
