Which Ekho Configuration software version do I need, and what does the laptop need?
The Ekho Configuration software connects to the EK-WL8-TRH translator over a micro-USB cable; match the software version to the translator firmware.
Direct answer
The Ekho Configuration software (referred to as the Ekho Configurator in some Hochiki documents) programs the EK-WL8-TRH translator and the Ekho wireless devices linked to it. Match the software version to the firmware in the translator: use 12.0.27 for translators running firmware 27 or later, and 10.0 for firmware 26 or earlier. The translator connects to the laptop through its micro USB port, not a serial port, so you need a data-capable USB-A to micro-USB B cable. Request the software, and the version that matches your translator, from Hochiki Europe technical support.

- Firmware / Version: Ekho Configuration software 10.0 and 12.0.27, matched to EK-WL8-TRH firmware 26 or earlier and 27 or later respectively
- Region: Not applicable
- Standards: Not applicable
Which version do I need?
The version is chosen by the firmware in the EK-WL8-TRH translator, not by the firmware in the individual wireless devices. The two are numbered separately, so a device at firmware 22 and a translator at firmware 27 is a normal combination.
- Ekho Configuration software 12.0.27 — for EK-WL8-TRH translators running firmware 27 or later.
- Ekho Configuration software 10.0 — for EK-WL8-TRH translators running firmware 26 or earlier.
To read the translator firmware version before you ask for the software, look at the top line of the EK-WL8-TRH display, which shows WL8-TRH v x.x/RF v.y. Once you are connected, Read firmware version is also available from the translator actions in the software.
If the translator firmware is older than the version you need, it can be updated with the EK-FWR firmware updating tool, which is run from the firmware loader utility inside the Ekho Configuration software. Contact Hochiki Europe technical support before updating the firmware on an installed system.
What the laptop needs
- A Windows laptop or PC, and permission to install software on it.
- A free USB port and a data-capable USB-A to micro-USB B cable to the micro USB port on the EK-WL8-TRH. A charge-only cable carries no data and will not connect. Hochiki supplies this cable: order it as item number 1600590-00, listed in the Hochiki catalogue as Micro USB Cable (Male USB A to Male USB Micro B, USB 2.0, 1 m). The part number printed on its packaging is 182-8871. The same cable is supplied in the EK-ETK hybrid wireless training kit.
Connecting to the translator
- Install the matching version. Install the version that matches the translator firmware, and remove any other version first. Keep only one version installed, so that a system is not opened with the wrong version.
- Connect the cable. Connect the laptop to the micro USB port on the EK-WL8-TRH with the data-capable USB-A to micro-USB B cable.
- Select the connection. In the software, select the USB connection for the EK-WL8-TRH.
- Work with the system. The translator actions include Read firmware version, Read system from hardware, Program, Create a backup copy and Restore from a backup copy. A backup copy allows the system to be restored later without reprogramming every device.
For what the software is used for in practice, see How do I replace an Ekho EK-WL8-TRH translator without losing the configuration? (backing up and restoring a system) and Why do my Ekho wireless devices not appear on the fire panel loop? (checking that a device is initialised to the translator).
When to contact technical support
Contact Hochiki Europe technical support to request the Ekho Configuration software and the version that matches your translator firmware, if the installer will not run on your laptop, or if the software will not connect to the translator over USB. Ekho training is required before you commission an Ekho system.
