How do I find out the address of a device?

Read the current address with the TCH-B200 hand-held programmer; an un-programmed sensor reads 127 and a base sounder reads 254.

Direct answer

Fit the device to the TCH-B200 hand-held programmer and press the left key to switch it on. A battery check message is displayed, followed by the address currently stored in the device. An un-programmed sensor reads 127; a base sounder or base sounder beacon leaves the factory on 254.

Applies to

  • Products / Models: TCH-B200, PL-2 and PL-3 programming leads. Reads and sets addresses on the Hochiki ESP range: analogue sensors (ALN, ATJ, ACB, ACC, ACD), HCP manual call points, the CHQ-SIM, CHQ-SOM and CHQ-POM mini-modules, the CHQ-ARI remote indicator, CHQ-WS2, CHQ-WSB/WSB2, YBO-BS and YBO-BSB/BSB2. The address of a larger CHQ interface module (a CHQ-DZM, CHQ-DIM2, CHQ-DSC2, CHQ-DRC2, CHQ-MRC2 or CHQ-SZM2) is read from the first seven switches of the 8-bit DIL switch on the module, not with the programmer.

How do I read a device address?

Sensors clip straight onto the programmer, aligning the three locating tabs with the grooves. A call point, a mini-module or an ACB-EW multi-heat sensor needs a programming lead instead — see Can I address mini-modules and call points?

  1. Fit the device to the programmer, lining the three locating tabss up with the grooves, or connect the appropriate programming lead.
  2. Press the left key to switch the programmer on. A battery check message is displayed, followed by the address currently stored in the device. An un-programmed sensor reads 127; a base sounder or base sounder beacon leaves the factory on 254.
  3. Press the right key to switch the programmer off.

Reading an address does not change it, but do not press the left key a second time or press the centre key: a second press of the left key advances the display by 10, and the centre key stores whatever address is displayed.

Setting a new address

To change the address rather than read it, see How do I program a new address into a device?, which also covers the address ranges to use and how to confirm that the new address has been stored.

When to contact technical support

Contact Hochiki Europe technical support if the programmer shows E2 or E5 with the device correctly located and the correct programming lead fitted, or if a bAt message persists after a new PP3 battery has been fitted. For what each code means, see What do the TCH-B200 error codes mean?

Safety note

This article is general guidance for Hochiki Europe products.
