How do I reset a FIREwave RSM-WTM wireless translator module?
Soft-reset a FIREwave RSM-WTM translator from its RESET menu, taking care not to confirm INITIALIZE, which unlinks every wireless device.
Direct answer
To soft-reset a FIREwave RSM-WTM wireless translator module, use the front-panel menu to navigate to RESET, not INITIALIZE, and confirm it there. Confirming INITIALIZE instead reprograms the translator's system code and RF channel, changes its encryption, and disconnects every wireless device already linked to it, all of which then need re-registering. Disable the outputs and sounders at the control panel before you start, run the reset, wait for the display to go blank, reset the panel, then reinstate the outputs and sounders. This procedure applies to the FIREwave RSM-WTM translator only; Ekho EK-WL8-TRH translators use a different menu.
Applies to
- Products / Models: FIREwave RSM-WTM wireless translator module (not the Ekho EK-WL8-TRH translator)
- Firmware / Version: All versions
- Region: Not applicable
- Standards: EN 54-25
Before you start
Agree the work with the responsible person, then disable the outputs and sounders at the control panel so that the reset cannot operate them (see How to disable part of a fire alarm system safely). While the translator display is active, the control panel shows DISCONNECTED FAULTS for every device on that translator. These clear when the display goes blank.
How do I reset a FIREwave RSM-WTM wireless translator module?
Follow these steps in order:
- Locate the FIREwave RSM-WTM translator module on site.
- Use P3 / P4 (up / down) to move through the menu, P2 (right) to enter a menu or confirm, and P1 (left) to exit without confirming.
- Navigate down to RF, then across to SYS passing EXP.
- Continue down to RES, then across to DONE and across again to CONFIRM
- Make sure you continue past INITIALIZE. Do not confirm INITIALIZE. Initialising the translator changes its system encryption, and every wireless device linked to it will stop communicating and must be reprogrammed.
- Press P1 to exit the menu.
What should be done after the reset?
- Wait for the translator display to go blank.
- Reset the panel.
- Re-enable the outputs and sounders that you disabled before starting, confirm that no fault remains on the panel, and record the disablement and reinstatement in the log book.
What should the display or LEDs look like?
After the reset the display should go blank. A blank display is the normal operating state. If the display does not go blank, or the system fault LED (DL2) is lit, contact Hochiki Europe Technical Support.
When to contact technical support
If the translator display does not go blank after the reset, if devices remain in fault, or if INITIALIZE was confirmed by mistake, contact Hochiki Europe Technical Support before reprogramming any devices.
